Gatchina (Russian: Гатчина) is a city in Russia.

  • It is the largest city in Leningrad Oblast.
  • It is the only so-called "palace suburb" of St. Petersburg that is not included in the modern urban area of the city.

Hitchhiking in

  • Train station.
  • Bus station.

Hitchhiking out

North towards Saint Petersburg and Pavlovsk via R23

  • At the end of the residential area, the road splits in two – the one coming from St. Petersburg and the one going towards St. Petersburg and Pavlovsk. You need to take the road to the right. This is all you need to know about leaving Gatchina towards St. Petersburg. In case of a Sunday evening traffic jam to St. Petersburg, you can suggest to the driver to go through Pavlovsk and Pushkin exiting at Shushary onto the ring road, if necessary.

South towards Luga and Pskov via R23

  • You can hitchhike right after the turn to the palace of Paul I. You can walk further and hitchhike just after the railway crossing and the turn to the new residential area. But it is better to reach the end of the bypass, which connects to the old road through the city. There is a perfect spot at the exit from the "Faeton" gas station with street lights.

East towards Tosno via A120

  • The main thing is to get to the end of the bypass in the direction of Luga. The village of Bolshiye Kolpany. There is a junction with the road to Tosno.
