Shahty (Russian: Шахты) is a city in Russia, located in Rostov Oblast. It is the second largest city in the oblast by area and the third by population. The city lies 60 km from Rostov-on-Don and 1000 km from Moscow near the M4 Don highway, though it is 6 km off the main road. Shahty is a convenient transit point if you wish to avoid entering Rostov-on-Don and city transport connects Shahty directly to and from the highway.

South towards Rostov-on-Don via M4

  • Bus 430 from the central market to the village of Maysky. North of the village, the bus passes the interchange with A270, but does not stop on the highway.
  • Minibus 695 departs from the bus station to Novoshakhtinsk and has an official stop on the highway not far from the interchange.

North towards Moscow via M4

  • From the "Shakhtnaya" train station, buses No. 114, 114-a, 114-l, 410, 410a, and 502 can take you to the "M4 Highway" stop. The best place to hitchhike is at the triangle opposite the village of Ayutinsky.
