Stavropol (Russian: Ставрополь) is a city in Russia, located in the North Caucasus Federal District. It is the administrative center of Stavropol Krai.

Hitchhiking out

North towards Rostov-on-Don via R269

  • The DPS post is located before the turn to Novoalexandrovsk, 5 km from the city. You can get there from Mikhaylovsk (bus No. 9 to the last stop) or via Bataiyskaya Street (bus No. 106, 123 to "Podgornaya" stop).
  • From Stavropol, you can take route 12, which almost leaves the city. After the old DPS post, it turns to Novoe Kladbishche. Get out at the turn, there's a gas station across the road—it's an excellent place to hitchhike.

South towards Kochubeyevskoye and the R217 "Kavkaz" highway

  • There is a roundabout where the Eastern and Southern bypass roads meet, 2 km from the "Uchkhoz" stop. Buses No. 27, 29 and minibuses No. 1222 and 127 go here.
  • You can also hitchhike at Bus Station No. 1, either straight ahead along Dovatortsev Street (those going to Nevinnomyssk usually pass here, as this section shortens the route by 7 km, although the road is rough for a bit) or along the South Bypass (used by those bypassing the city or going to Nevinnomyssk). At least from here you can get to the first roundabout (Deminsky), and from there all cars go towards Nevinnomyssk.
  • 1.5 km north from the junction there is the "ST Khimreaktivy" stop, reachable by bus No. 18.

East towards Elista and Astrakhan via R216

  • The outbound DPS post is at the roundabout near the entrance to the village of Nadezhda. This is a great spot for hitchhiking right under the Nadezhda sign. Bus No. 23 to Staromaryevskaya stops here, as do minibuses No. 103, 107A, and 107B.

Hitchhiking in

  • The city is 40 km north of the "Kavkaz" highway (R269).

  • Train station: http://stavropol.dzvr.ru Only one train from Moscow (No. 77/78) arrives at this terminal station, as well as two suburban trains from "Kavkazskaya" and "Palagiada" stations.
