Hitchhiking out
East towards Tyumen and Kurgan
Option 1 – Sibirskiy Trakt / Bus 45 (“Soyuz” or “Povorot na Istok” stops)
From the “Vostochnaya” bus station (Ulitsa Vostochnaya 7/1), take bus 45 to the "Soyuz" stop on Sibirskiy Trakt. The bus turns off, but you continue on foot for 250 meters straight. Better: ride the 45 to the "Povorot na Istok" stop, walk to the bridge and down to the highway. This spot is better for hitchhiking, but you’ll need to walk from the stop.
Option 2 – Malyshevskiy Bridge
At the end of Ulitsa Malysheva/beginning of Ulitsa Vysotskogo is a bridge over Sibirskiy Trakt. Get here by tram (routes A, 8, 13, 15, 18, 23, 32), bus (25, 27, 33, 61), or minibus (27, 56, 61, 77, 83) to "Komsomolskaya" stop; then 150m to the bridge. Walk along the right side, use the path over the heating pipeline (makeshift crossing), and you'll reach the highway. Tyumen is to your right. At night, it's well-lit.
Option 3 – “Stroy-Arsenal” Store / Sibirsky Trakt, Medical College or Esenina stop
Located between the last exits to the highway. Can reach by bus 27, minibus 27, 067 to "Medical College"; or by bus 45, minibus 029 to "Mikrorayon Komsomolsky." With “Siniye Kamni” transport (bus 60, 76 or minibus 054), exit at "Esenina" and walk towards "Stroy-Arsenal" and the highway. The position has some city and shop traffic, but benefits include lighting and a nearby traffic light. Best to move another 600m to the shopping center "Sibirsky Trakt" or until the old police checkpoint.
Option 4 – Shopping Center “Sibirsky Trakt” Exit
The last city exit onto Sibirskiy Trakt, located across from the shopping mall near a petrol station. Accessible by bus 27, minibus 27, bus 61, minibus 15, 61, 67, bus 45 or minibus 29 (“ZHBI” stop). Crossing the road is required.
West towards Perm via R242
From "Ploshchad 1905 Goda" metro station, take bus 2 or minibus 34/27 to "TC Mega" shopping center. From there, walk 1.5 km along Metallurgov Street to the traffic police post.
South towards Chelyabinsk via M5
From “Chkalovskaya” metro (Southern bus terminal), take minibus 102 to the “Bolshoi Istok” junction, or from the train station take trolleybus 1 to "Ulitsa Dimitrova" near the Khimmash turn. From there it’s about 1.5 km on Dimitrova to the police post or 2.5 km to the Bolshoi Istok turn (the most advantageous position, as bypass traffic joins here). The best spot is the “Bolshoi Istok” turn (junction with bypass and airport road, with a traffic light). Reachable by bus 138 ("Yuzhnaya–Aramil") from “Yuzhnaya,” or by minibus 113 (from "Megapolis" shopping center) or 159 (from the Circus), get off at the “Melzavod” stop. Hitchhike after the traffic light or 120m after the sign "No stopping".
North towards Nizhny Tagil via R352
From "UralMash" metro, go to "Ulitsa Lukinyh" by tram 6, 19, 23, 24, bus 36, or minibus 07, 08. Walk via Nikolskiy Lane and Pavlovskaya Street (approx 400 m) to the highway. From "Prospekt Kosmonavtov" metro, take bus 111 to "UZHR" stop. Then walk 1 km to the Serovsky Trakt. From the corner of Donbasskaya and Mashinostroiteley Streets, you can reach the Serovsky Trakt. Use trams 8, 17, 22, 24 to "Lukinyh", then 200m on Donbasskaya to the junction with the traffic light and Nizhny Tagil sign. Alternatively, walk via Suvorovsky Lane to the cafe at the forest edge, then left on Pavlovskaya to the highway. Another option: intersection of Rastochna and Montazhnikov. After the intersection, Rastochna goes over a railway bridge onto Serovsky Trakt R352. Accessible by various city buses/minibuses to "Montazhnikov" or "Rastochna" stops, see original for full list. From the stop, spot the bridge and walk there (approx 900 m to the interchange on R352).
